The Votes are In!

Thank you to all that voted on our poll.  Once we finish reading 100 books, Sholastic will donate books to the Pajama Program.

The Pajama Program provides new books and new pajamas to children in need, many of whom are waiting and hoping to be adopted. These children are living in shelters and group homes and are often shuffled from one temporary home to another. Most of these children have been removed from school for long periods of time and do not have access to books to continue their reading practice. Their reading skills are far lower than their peers. Many of these youngsters have been abused or abandoned, and in many cases, have never enjoyed the simple comfort of having a mother or father tuck them in at bedtime in clean night clothing with a story read to them or their own book to read. Through the Pajama Program, we are contributing to a warmer, more loving bedtime in a supportive reading environment for these special children. The Pajama Program (501 c3) was founded in 2001, and to date we have provided more than 210,000 pajamas and 110,000 books nationwide.

Keep reading for this worthy cause!

Matt Wilhelm

Thanks to our wonderful PTA, we had an unforgettable assembly today!  BMX biker Matt Wilhelm came to our school to show us many of his "tricks" on his bike.  We can see why he's won 3 medals in the X Games, and we wish him much luck in his next competition in Japan.

Matt's greatest lesson to us was  to NEVER GIVE UP!!!  He encouraged us to find something we enjoy doing, practice a lot, and we'll be successful.

Here is a video highlighting Matt's BMX career.

Click here to find out what the reflections contest is all about.

Last year, Ivy Hill had 110 entries!  We're hoping for another great turnout this year.  The deadline is October 24.

WE'RE READING...FOR A WORTHY CAUSE!

Our class is proud to participate in Scholastic Book Clubs' Classrooms Care Program.  This means that when our class reads 100 books, Scholastic Book Clubs will make a donation of books to needy children through one of its Literacy Partners:  First Book, Reach Out and Read, Hello Friend, The Pajama Program, Pine Ridge Reservation, One Heartland, or Save the Children.

Please click here to find out more information on these Literacy Partners, and then vote for the program you'd like to see our donated books go to!
